Former ISRO chief Dr. K. Kasturirangan died in Bengaluru at 10:43 am today. Dr. K. Kasturirangan was a famous Indian astronomer. He was born on 24 October 1940. On Sunday 27 April, his body was kept in RRI from 10 am to 12 noon, where people paid their last tribute.
Education and career
– Dr. Kasturirangan graduated in Physics and postgraduate degree from Bombay University.
– He received a doctorate in 1971 from Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad to Experimental High Energy Astronomy.
– He served in various positions including Chairman and Secretary in ISRO and led the Indian Space Program for more than 9 years.
Achievements and Awards
– Dr. Kasturirangan made many significant contributions to India’s space program, including a successful launch of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and Geosinkronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
– He has been awarded prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
– He has been honored by various scientific academies and organizations including the Indian Academy of Science Academy, Indian National Science Academy and Third World Science Academy.
