MSEDCL installing smart meters on a divyang stall has been objected to and the matter was raised with the authorities.
Former corporator of Vashi, Divya Vaibhav Gaikwad, chairperson of the Environmental advisory committee took up the matter with the electricity body at Vashi.
In a letter addressed to the superintendent engineer, MSEDCL, the former corporator sought for the immediate removal of the smart meter installed onto a stall. The corporator further sought from the electricity department to not conduct any such installation without the permission from the consumer.
“The stall is allocated to a specially abled person by the municipal corporation. The smart meter was installed when no one was present and neither was any permission taken from the stall owner,” said the former corporator.
MSEDCL through the letter was informed about the statements made by the Chief Minister (CM) and Energy minister Devendra Fadnavis in the matter of installing the smart meter. “CM has said in the Vidhan Sabha held in July 2024 that the smart meter will not be installed by common consumers; this includes residential category consumers. So the installation of meters done at Vashi stall is not at all acceptable and will lead to public anger,” said the corporator.
The letter was personally handed over to the officer by the corporator on Friday.
