Australia opener Sam Constas scored a brilliant half-century on debut in the fourth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, but his batting style created a lot of buzz. Most of Constas’s shots were in the style of T20 cricket, trying to score quick runs on Australian pitches. For this reason, former Australian Test fast bowler Rodney Hogg simply called him a “slugger” and warned that if he continued playing such shots, he would not be able to be successful in the long run.

Rodney Hogg said on Australian news channel 10 News First, “You cannot play round shots in Test matches in Sri Lanka. These two Test matches may have become famous, but Sam is a slugger. If he wants to survive in Test cricket, he will have to make changes in his batting. Your strike rate does not matter in Test cricket. You have to go out there and bat the right way.”

Similarly, Australia’s wicketkeeper batsman Alex Carey also expressed concern about Sam Konstas’ batting. “His batting style will definitely be talked about. I don’t think this is the right way for him to be successful in the long run. When the wickets are favorable for the batsmen, he gets on with his work, but if he continues playing like this then he may face problems.”

Sam Konstans played sloppy shots in his BGT debut match, while being out for playing fast in Sydney. His performance in both the innings was not special, which led to further discussion on his batting style.
