Chennai Super Kings Head Coach Stephen Fleming dismissed criticisms that CSK’s cricket style was now old. Fleming insisted that Chennai team still has aggression, and no one makes the mistake of taking them lightly.
RCB defeated Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs on Friday to win Chepock after 17 years. After this defeat, questions started to arise on CSK’s way of playing.
Fleming gave a befitting reply
During the press conference, when former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming was asked if the game style of CSK is now old, he expressed displeasure and said:
“What does this question mean? What is our cricket style? We play to win, and this is the right way. There is no lack of aggression in our team. Just because we do not hit fours and sixes with the first ball, it does not mean that our style is old. We play positive cricket and no one can take us lightly.”
Dhoni broke Suresh Raina’s record
In this match, MS Dhoni scored 30 not out in 16 balls and overtook Suresh Raina, breaking the record of scoring the most runs for Chennai Super Kings in IPL history.
Fleming said about Dhoni’s batting, “Dhoni has been practicing for the last one month and has been working hard on his fitness. But by the time he came to bat, it was very difficult to win.”
Poor fielding caused by CSK defeat
Fleming admitted that the biggest reason for CSK’s defeat was his poor fielding. They said,
“We lost two-three opportunities and gave RCB a chance to pressurize. The score of 175 would have been ideal, but we made mistakes in fielding, giving RCB additional runs.”
Rituraj Gaikwad also held fielding responsible
CSK captain Rituraj Gaikwad also blamed the defeat on poor fielding. They said,
“The score of 170 on this pitch would have been correct, but we gave 20 runs, which had to adopt a separate strategy in the powerplay. We dripped the catch, and their run -up did not slow down till the last over. We have to improve our fielding.”
