Nashik: Forest Department Approves Proposal To Divert 28.06 Hectares Of Land From Mamdapur Reservoir | Sourced

The proposal to divert 28.06 hectares of land from Mamdapur reservoir, which supplies water to the northeastern part of Yeola, which is constantly in the shadow of drought, has finally received the approval of the Forest Department. A government decision in this regard was announced on Tuesday. With this, the northeastern part of Yeola taluka, which is constantly in the shadow of drought, will soon get water, and the irrigation area will increase significantly.

The proposal to divert 28.06 hectares of land for this project was pending with the Forest Department. MLA Chhagan Bhujbal continuously followed up on this. Finally, the Forest Department has approved this proposal, and the work of the project will now gain momentum.

The Mamdapur Storage Lake Mela Dam Project is being implemented with a fund of Rs 15.74 crore. Since the northeastern part of Yeola taluka is continuously suffering from drought, this project is very important to increase the irrigation capacity of this place.

The work of this project started in 2017. However, since this project falls in the Mamdapur Reserve Conservation Area and will be implemented on 28.06 hectares of land of the Forest Department, the work could not start due to the lack of various permissions from the State and Central Government Forest and Environment Departments. Finally, the work of this project started in October.

The Water Conservation Department is trying to obtain various permissions from the State Wildlife Board, National Wildlife Board Standing Committee, Central Government Forest and Environment Department, etc. On 23 May 2022, the Central Government Forest and Environment Department approved this project subject to the guidelines dated May 6, 2022. Thereafter, the Water Conservation Department had sent a proposal to the Central Government’s Pawar Committee in Nagpur after fulfilling various conditions. In a meeting held on September 12, 2022, this committee approved the Stage-1 land conversion proposal of this storage tank in the Mamdapur Reserve Conservation Area. On September 20, 2024, the final approval for Stage-2 was received from the Department of Forests and Environment, Government of India.

The catchment area of this lake will be 18 sqkm and the total capacity will be 35.67 cubic feet. The length of this dam is 220 meters and the proposed length of the spillway is 79 meters. This dam will irrigate the land in the Mamdapur area, which will greatly benefit the farmers and the storage lake will also be used for drinking water for the wildlife and animals of the Mamdapur Reserve Conservation Area.
