Shaktikanta Das appointed Principal Secretary to Prime Minister: For the first time in the history of the country, two Principal Secretaries of a Prime Minister will work together. Shaktikanta Das, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, has been elected Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also, PK Mishra has been working as Principal Secretary since 2019. After the formation of the Modi government in 2019, PK Mishra was given the responsibility of Principal Secretary.
Shaktikanta Das has recently retired as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Now he has been given the important responsibility of the Principal Secretary of Prime Minister Modi. Shaktikanta Das has a lot of experience working with the government. Apart from being the Governor of RBI, he has also held the posts of Finance Secretary and Secretary of Economic Affairs. His experience in the field of finance and policy making will prove to be beneficial for PMs.
PK Mishra needs support
Experts say that PK Mishra is very much older. Since he was 76 years old, he needed a companion. Shaktikanta Das is 67 years old. With the appointment of Shaktikanta, Prime Minister Modi will now have two Principal Secretaries. Usually one works as a principal secretary and the other as Additional Principal Secretary. But this time, for the first time, two Principal Secretaries have been appointed in place of one Additional Principal Secretary.
Two advisors of Prime Minister Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also has two advisors. IAS Amit Khare and Tarun Kapoor are working as advisors. PK Mishra is the most senior retired officer in the PMO. A 1972 batch IAS officer was also appointed Principal Secretary in the third term of the Modi government.
Shaktikanta Das has widespread experience
Shaktikanta Das completed his graduation and postgraduate studies in history from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi after getting education from Demostation Multiperpage School in Bhubaneswar. He has been working in civil service for a long time. He has contributed significantly to eight Union Budgets. He has also been the Governor of ADB, NDB and AIIB.
