Goals from star strikes Alexi McAllister and Cody Gakpo helped Liverpool beat Real Madrid in the Champions League after a 15-year absence. Liverpool continued their unbeaten run at Anfield with a 2-0 win and move top of the group standings with a two-point lead over Inter Milan.
Inter Milan is at number two. In the match, forwards Kylian Mbappe and Mohamed Salah missed to convert the penalty, but in the second half, Alastair Bwanmi and Gakpo scored in the 76th minute to ensure the team’s victory. Liverpool last won against European champions Real Madrid of Spain in 2009 and have not managed a win in six matches since then. Liverpool lost to Real Madrid in the 2018 and 2022 Champions League finals. With this, Liverpool also secured a place in the Champions League play-off round-16. This is their fifth consecutive win in the league stage. In another Champions League match, Borussia Dortmund strengthened their claim for the play-offs by beating Dynamo Zagreb 3–0. Although Dortmund were finalists last year, they easily won the match and collected a total of 12 points. Jamie Gittens scored in the 41st minute, Rami Bensebaini in the 56th minute and Sergio Guarassi in the 90th minute to make the match one-sided.
