Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With the festive season approaching, the food safety administration has intensified efforts to curb the sale of adulterated food products across the city. Teams of food safety officers have been deployed at key locations, including bus stands, railway stations, and food markets, to conduct surprise inspections and collect samples for testing.

During an inspection at Gangwal Bus Stand, officials examined consignments of mawa arriving from other districts. Around three quintals of mawa, stored in 14 baskets, were checked. Preliminary tests did not indicate adulteration, but four samples were collected for detailed laboratory analysis.

A similar operation was carried out near Bhandari Bridge, where another consignment of nearly four quintals of mawa packed in 15 sacks was inspected. A total of 700 kg mawa was taken into custody for testing.

Senior food safety officer Manish Swami said, “Continuous action is being taken against food adulteration throughout the city. Several samples have already been sent to the Bhopal laboratory for examination, and necessary action will be taken based on the findings. We are also monitoring transit points to prevent the inflow of adulterated food products.”

Over the past two days, 26 samples have been collected from various locations. A food safety team visited Jyotiraj Dairy Pvt. Ltd. in Depalpur, where samples of ghee and butter were collected. Simultaneously, a namkeen shop and Jayshree Kirana in Depalpur were inspected, leading to the collection of samples of namkeen and pulses for quality checks.

Inspections were extended to other locations, including Jyoti Industries on A.B. Road, where coconut samples were collected. Curd and cow’s milk samples were also taken from different dairies in the city for testing.

Swami added that food safety checks are being conducted extensively across Indore, from Depalpur to major marketplaces, to ensure that no adulterated food products reach consumers.

Officials have warned that any failure to comply with food safety regulations will result in strict legal action under Section 32 of the Food Safety Act. The collected samples are undergoing detailed analysis at the Bhopal food testing laboratory, and further action will be taken accordingly.
