A day after a 28-year-old man was assaulted by a group with sticks in Latur city until his clothes were torn, Latur Police arrested five people and paraded them on the city road.
As per the report by PTI, on Tuesday evening, a drunken brawl near a bar left the youth critically injured.
Police arrested five persons after a viral video showed the man, later identified as Ajay Chinchole, being beaten up by a group of five with sticks, stones, and belts.
Before police reached the spot, local people had rushed Chinchole to Latur Government Medical College for treatment.
Police are analyzing CCTV camera footage from the area, an official said, adding that initial investigations suggest all five attackers have a criminal background.
Here’s what exactly happened
The information given by the police about this incident is that the attacker and the injured youth were all sitting in a bar on Ambajogai Road in Latur city on Tuesday evening. It is believed that there was an argument between them in the bar over a trivial reason, which led to the altercation. In a short time, a gang of six to seven people attacked the young man on the street. The young man, who was seriously injured in this attack, was unconscious for some time.
Despite that, the attackers continued to beat him. While this incident was going on, a large crowd of onlookers gathered, many of whom made videos. As soon as the Shivajinagar police station received information about the incident, the police reached the spot. By then, the accused had fled.
