Central employees are eagerly waiting for the introduction of the Eighth Pay Commission. There is a discussion among the employees how much the fitment factor will be in the new commission and how much will their salary increase.

What will be the fitment factor?

According to sources, the Fitment Factor 1.90 can be determined in the Eighth Pay Commission. Currently dearness allowance (DA) is between 55% to 61%. In such a situation, employees are expected to get an average increase in the new pay commission. However, if the salary growth occurs up to 24%, the fitment factor may increase, but it seems difficult to happen at the moment.

Dearness allowance

Under the Eighth Pay Commission, the dearness allowance is expected to replace the base year. Currently DA is the base year 2016 for calculation, which can be updated by 2026. This change will also change the process of DA calculation.

When will the eighth pay commission be applicable?

The recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission may come into force from January 2026. It is believed that the Commission may submit its final report by May 2026. After this, employees will be given an arrear along with amendment in salary. This will be given to employees from the date of implementation of the recommendation of the Arrear Commission.

DA likely to merge in basic salary

If the dearness allowance becomes about 61% until the eighth pay commission is implemented, it can be merged into the basic salary. When this happens, the old DA will become zero, and the basic salary of the employees will increase. However, the government has not yet taken any final decision on this.

What do employees want?

Central employees want the fitment factor and dearness allowance to be calculated in a clear and transparent manner. Along with this, there is also a demand to revise DA four times instead of twice a year.
