Why is the big Mars celebrated?
According to mythological beliefs, when Shri Ram Mata went out in search of Sita in Tretayuga, his first meeting with Hanuman ji was held on Tuesday of Jyeshtha month. Since then, every Tuesday of Jyeshtha month is considered important from religious point of view. There is a religious belief that worshiping Lord Shri Ram with Hanuman ji on the day of Bada Mars can fulfill the desired wishes.

In Hinduism, Hanuman ji is worshiped as the greatest devotee of Lord Shri Ram. Religious belief is that by worshiping Hanuman ji on big Mars, a person gets evil forces, premature deaths and accidents. According to astrology, worship of Hanuman ji on this day reduces the side effects of Mars and Saturn. It is also believed that old age maintains his grace on the devotees of Hanuman ji on Mars.
What is the story behind Bada Mars in Lucknow?
According to a belief, the health of the son of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Lucknow had become very bad and when he was not cured by any solution, he was asked to accept a vow in a Hanuman temple in Aliganj. It is said that after praying in that temple, his son’s health started improving. After this, the Nawab and his Begum renovated the temple, which was completed in the Jyeshtha month. Since then, the tradition of distribution of Bhandare and jaggery offerings started in Lucknow on the day of Bada Mangal.

- On this day, get up early in the morning and take a bath.
- If you want to keep a fast, then take a pledge to fast only after bathing.
- On the day of big Mars, we should wear red clothes.
- Offer a red colored Chola to Hanuman ji.
- Remember them and light a lamp of jasmine oil.
- Then offer Bajrangbali to Bundi Laddus.
- Offer a garland of basil and rose flower to Hanuman ji.
- Then 11 times Hanuman Chalisa should be recited.
- Aarti of Lord Hanuman should be performed with emotion.
- Then one should chant ‘Om Han Hanumate Namah’ 108 times.
