Deesa (Gujarat): A massive explosion at a fireworks factory and godown on Dhunwa Road in Deesa has resulted in the deaths of at least seven workers, with fears that the toll could rise. Panic and chaos have gripped the area as fire department personnel battle the raging flames and search for survivors trapped under the debris.
The intensity of the fire was so severe that multiple blasts were heard, causing a roof collapse that buried several workers inside the factory. Firefighters from Deesa Municipality and ambulances from the 108 emergency services rushed to the scene.
“According to initial information, a loud explosion was heard, which caused the roof to collapse, burying some workers. All of them have been shifted to the Civil Hospital. Six people are currently under treatment, three of whom have suffered over 40% burns,” said Deesa SDM Neha Panchal, cautioning that the exact death toll is still unclear.
Illegal Firecracker Manufacturing Under Scrutiny
The fire originated at a factory named Deepak Traders, which was engaged in firecracker production. Authorities suspect that an uncontrolled blast in explosive materials triggered the devastating inferno.
The factory is owned by Khubchand Sindhi, who allegedly procured raw explosive materials to manufacture firecrackers. Officials are now investigating whether the factory had the necessary permissions for producing and storing fireworks.
Rescue Operations and Official Response
While firefighters work tirelessly to douse the flames, police and local administration are conducting a detailed probe into the incident. Deputy Mamlatdar and the Chief Officer have reached the site to assess the extent of damage and ensure adequate rescue measures.
So far, there is no official confirmation on the number of workers present at the time of the explosion or how many have made it out safely.
