Mumbai – A security guard was killed and three others were injured in a fire in a 13 -storey building in Vidyavihar this morning. Meanwhile, about 20 people were rescued. At around three o’clock, when the fire department controlled the fire, people went and breathed a sigh of relief. Initial investigation could not ascertain the exact cause of the fire. The police have taken cognizance of the case and are further investigating.
An official of the fire department said the incident took place in the Taxila Co-operative Society at the Neelkanth Kingdom Complex on Naithani Road in front of Vidyavihar (West) Station. The 13 -storey building caught fire at 4.35 am today, while the residents were sleeping.
The fire spread to the first and second floors of the building. Due to which five flats were hit by fire.
On receiving information about the incident, the team of fire department reached for help. Firefighters carried out a rescue operation and took out about 20 people safely from the building. While two security guards Uday Gangan (age 43), Sabhajit Yadav (age 52) and elderly Kamla Ramesh Jain (age 73) and Jitendra Ramesh Jain (age 46) were scorched in the fire. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Where the doctor declared Uday dead. He was burnt 100 percent in the fire.
The fire damaged electrical establishments, household items, wood furniture, AC units, clothes and wooden wall fittings in a lobby of five flats.
The official said it was a second level fire and was extinguished by 7.33 am. How the fire started is being investigated.
