On Saturday evening, a fire broke out on the terrace of Hotel Fairmont, near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Terminal 2 in Vile Parle (E). According to fire officials, the fire was confined to the AC unit and exhaust ducting, affecting an area of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 sq. ft. on the terrace of the 10-floor building, which also has three basement levels and a ground floor.

The incident was classified as a Level 1, minor fire by the MFB. Three fire engines and three jumbo tankers were immediately dispatched to the site. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as confirmed by fire officials. The fire was brought under control and extinguished within an hour. As per fire officials, there were around 70 to 80 guests and hotel staff in the hotel at the time of the incident.

“Once the fire alarm rang, fire officials, in coordination with the hotel staff, swiftly evacuated all the people stranded on different floors through the staircase,” said an official.
