In the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the chargesheet revealed that The Fingerprints Bureau, CID, initially collected a total of 20 fingerprint samples from the crime scene the actor’s flat and from around 19 other individuals’ fingerprint impression slips who were present at the location on January 16, the day the crime occurred. These included fingerprint slips from Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
However, the chargesheet stated that none of the 20 fingerprints collected from the actor’s flat matched the accused, Shariful Islam, 30. On January 26, the Fingerprint Bureau of the CID visited the actor’s building again and collected three more fingerprint samples from the staircases. Out of these, one fingerprint matched with the left-hand palm impression of the accused ,Shariful Islam. This matched fingerprint was found on the wooden door (north side) of the staircase on the 8th floor of the Satguru Sharan building.
Of the initial 20 fingerprint samples, first, ten were developed. These ten fingerprints did not match the fingerprint impression slips of either Shariful Islam (the arrested accused) or Shahid Shabbir Sayyad (a suspect). Seven of these fingerprints were found on the back door of the bathroom, one on the sliding door of the bedroom, and two on the cupboard door.
The remaining ten prints did not have enough clear details, so they could not be compared. Out of the ten fingerprints, five enhanced fingerprints and one enhanced palm print were developed on the back door of the bathroom, and one enhanced fingerprint was found on a wooden door. Two additional enhanced fingerprints and one palm print were found on the bathroom marble, the bathroom’s back door glass, and the bedroom wall. However, these prints lacked sufficient ridge detail and were therefore deemed unfit for comparison.
The Fingerprints Bureau, CID, on January 26, visited the actor’s building and collected three more fingerprint samples from the actor’s building’s staircase. Of these, one enhanced palm print found on the wooden door (north side) of the 8th-floor staircase matched (identical) the left-hand palm impression of Shariful Islam. The remaining two fingerprint samples collected from the 9th floor staircase wooden door were not matched (unfit) for matching with the accused’s impression slips, according to the CID’s Fingerprint Bureau report included in the chargesheet.
Another fingerprint report noted that out of the 19 other individuals whose fingerprint slips were collected, two matched with the actor’s staff members — Nilesh Gawade and Hemlal Nyaupane. Gawade’s right-hand fingerprint was found on the back door of the bathroom, and Nyaupane’s left-hand middle finger print was found on the cupboard door.
The Fingerprint Bureau submitted its first report on January 17, confirming that the ten fingerprints developed did not match the accused. Two additional reports were submitted on January 29 — the first confirming no matches from ten developed prints, and the second revealing that one of three newly collected fingerprints matched the accused.
