Chhattisgarh has started gearing up for the civic body polls in the context that the final publication of electoral rolls is scheduled to be published on January 18. In this regard, Secretary of the Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, Dr. Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, has already issued two separate orders.
According to the first order, under the powers conferred by Section 42 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Raj Adhiniyam-1993 and Rule 18 of the Chhattisgarh Panchayat Election Rule-1995, the voter lists for all gram panchayats (organized block-wise) will be published on Saturday, January 18.
The second order, issued under Section 14(1) of the Chhattisgarh Municipal Corporation Act-1956, Section 32(1) of the Chhattisgarh Municipalities Act-1961, and Rule 8(2) of the Chhattisgarh Municipalities Election Rule-1994, specifies that voter lists for all civic bodies across the state will also be published on Saturday, January 18.
Official sources informed that the model code of conduct may come into effect for the upcoming elections to civic bodies and the three-tier panchayat system most likely after January 18.
