Cricket South Africa (CSA) has made the final decision on South Africa’s IPL 2025-bound players picked in the World Test Championship (WTC) final squad. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the seven players included in the WTC squad will return home on May 27 to prepare for the marquee clash at Lord’s against Australia.
Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Wiaan Mulder (SunRisers Hyderabad), Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians) will leave for home on May 27. They will leave for UK with the rest of Proteas’ WTC final squad on May 30 to prepare for the warm-up game against Zimbabwe from June 3 in Arundel.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, CSA has concluded negotiations with the IPL Governing Council about the early release of the players, especially with South Africa set to partake in WTC final for the first time. The remaining Proteas’ players, who have not been picked in the squad, will stay back.
The 18th edition of the tournament will resume on May 17, Saturday after the BCCI suspended it for a week in the wake of cross-border tensions with Pakistan. While the initial date of the final was May 25, the revised schedule means it will take place on June 3.
