The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) on Thursday said it is inquiring into a video clip of a scuffle between passengers on a Bangkok-Kolkata flight earlier this week. A video clip of the scuffle where a passenger was being slapped multiple times by some co-travellers was shared on social media on Wednesday. BCAS Director General Zulfiqar Hasan told PTI on Thursday, “BCAS has taken cognizance of the video. We have started an inquiry and further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.”

According to a passenger on board the aircraft, the incident took place on 26 December, just before the aircraft was on the runway for takeoff. The passenger, who was traveling with his mother, said the flight reached Kolkata in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Kolkata-based passenger told PTI about the incident on the condition of anonymity. He said he was worried about his mother who was sitting near the seat where the incident took place.

According to the passengers, the reason for the fight is not clear. Later, other passengers and the airhostess pacified those involved in the scuffle. It was not immediately known whether the incident was reported to the authorities in Kolkata after landing.

In the clip, two passengers were seen arguing, with one of them first saying ‘hands down’ and then started slapping the other person. Some other passengers were also involved in the brawl.

Thai Smile Airways could not be immediately reached for comment. Last week, a video clip of a heated argument between a passenger and an airhostess on an Indigo flight from Istanbul to Delhi was shared on social media.

A heated argument over food in the plane took place on 16 December. Indigo and the DGCA last week said they were probing the incident.
