News India Live, Digital Desk: Medical science is constantly looking for a new way to deal with diseases like obesity and diabetes. Now a new research has also emerged with the possibility of treating a serious disease such as fatty liver (metabolic dysfunction-exposed steethaepatitis-mash). According to the recent study, the drug used in obesity and diabetes, also known as ozempic and wegovy, has now also been found to be effective in fixing the problem of fatty liver.
Research revealed
Research published in “New England Journal of Medicine” included about 800 patients, who were given semeglutide medicines for 72 weeks. The results of this study were very encouraging.
- About two-thirds of patients saw a clear decrease in liver inflammation.
- In more than one-third of patients, liver scaring (scars on the membrane) also decreased.
This is also important because fatty liver can later lead to serious diseases like cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer.
Opinion of experts
According to Medical Expert Dr. Celine Gounder, “The use of semeglutide not only reduced the inflammation of the liver, but also improved the function of the liver. This drug can be useful in obesity and diabetes as well as other metabolic diseases.” However, he stressed that this drug should be consumed only with the advice of a doctor as its side effects and correct doses depend on the health of the individual.
This research is expected to open new avenues to treat serious problems like fatty liver in the medical field.
