The BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) police have registered an FIR against a father and son for allegedly cheating a diamond merchant of Rs.1.93 crore. The accused have been identified as Kishor Abhangi, 51, and Maulik Abhangi, 30. The case was filed on December 26 based on a complaint from diamond merchant Priyank Shah, 44. This is the second cheating case registered against the father-son duo at the BKC police station.

According to the FIR, the complainant Shah, a resident of Tardeo, operates K. Arin Jewels, a company located in Bharat Diamond Bourse, BKC. In September 2024, a diamond broker named Kishor Limbasia introduced Shah to Kishor Abhangi, claiming that Abhangi owned Parth Diamond Company, which also had an office in Bharat Diamond Bourse. Shah trusted Limbasia, as they had successfully worked together on several occasions in the past.

On September 18, at 2.30 p.m., Limbasia visited Shah’s office with Kishor Abhangi and his son Maulik Abhangi. Kishor Abhangi informed Shah that he had a customer interested in purchasing high-quality diamonds. Trusting Limbasia and Maulik, Shah handed over 459.73 carats of diamonds worth Rs.1.93 crore, along with a receipt. The receipt was signed by Shah, Kishor Abhangi, and Limbasia. The Abhangi duo assured Shah that they would update him on the deal within two to three days.

After two days, Limbasia contacted Kishor Abhangi, who informed him that the diamonds had been shown to the customer and the deal would soon be finalised. However, as time passed, there was no further update from the Abhangis. Eventually, Shah and Limbasia visited Abhangi’s office, only to find it shut. Attempts to contact them via phone failed, as their mobile phones were switched off. Later, Shah learned that the Abhangi father-son duo had used the same fraudulent methods to cheat other diamond dealers before fleeing.

Eventually, Shah filed a complaint against the Abhangis, leading the police to register a case under Sections 3(5) (general explanations), 316(5) (criminal breach of trust), and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
