If you travel on the highway and use Fastag for toll payment, then this news is very important for you. New rules of fastag are going to be implemented from Monday, under which additional fine will be imposed for low balance, delay in payment or fasting blacklist. The main objective of these changes is to reduce traffic jams on the toll plaza and make the toll process more smooth.

What are the new fastag rules?

Under the new guidelines issued by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the transaction will be rejected if your Fastag is not activated within the prescribed time frame.

60 minutes before crossing the toll: If your fastag is in a position of blacklist, hotelist or low balance for more than 60 minutes, the toll transaction will be rejected.

10 minutes after crossing the toll: If the fastag is inactive even after 10 minutes after the scan, the transaction will fail.

In both these situations, fastag payment will be rejected and the user will have to pay double the fine of toll fee.

Fastag will not be recharged on toll plaza now

Earlier, if a user’s fastag balance was reduced, they could have proceeded by recharging on the toll plaza itself. But now this facility will not be available. It will be necessary to recharge Fastag in advance so that any kind of discomfort can be avoided.

Large changes in fastag validation

According to the new NPCI rules, it will be mandatory to complete the fastag transactions within the stipulated time. Under the new rules, Fastag accounts are divided into two categories:

White -active Fastag – They can be used without any problems.
Blacklisted – These will be rejected for transactions.

Fastag some main reasons for being blacklist:
Insufficient balance
KYC Verification Pending
Any disturbance related to vehicle registration

If your fastag has been blacklisted 60 minutes before reaching the toll booth, it will not be possible to avoid recharging at the last moment. However, if recharged within 10 minutes of toll scan, only normal toll fees will have to be paid and penalty can be avoided.

What will be the effect on Fastag users?

The implementation of the new rules will reduce long queues of vehicles on the toll plaza and the payment process will accelerate. However, users who are not aware of these rules may be forced to pay unnecessary fine.

So Fastag users need to take care of these precautions:
Always maintain enough balance so that the transaction does not fail.
Keep KYC updates so that Fastag is not blacklist.
Check Fastag balance before going on long drive.
Check the position of your fastag before going to the toll booth.

What is the purpose of this government’s move?

Experts believe that this change will make toll operations more transparent and controversial-free.

Legal experts say:

  • “This system will reduce the failures of transactions and make the toll experience more convenient.”
  • “Users will be motivated to take care of their Fastag account, which will reduce traffic jams and toll disputes.”

The main objective of the government is to streamline the toll collection and make traffic accessible on the highway.
