The government denied GPS based toll from May 1: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has officially described reports as baseless, which has been asked to close fastag facilities from May 1, 2025 and start a satellite -based GPS toll collection in its place. The Ministry has clarified on the discussion of GPS -based GNSS toll collection, which has been in discussion for the last few days, saying that there is no such plan at the moment.
The ministry said that there is no plan to implement satellite -based toll collection facility anywhere in the country. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the National Highways Authority of India has not taken any decision on this issue. Reports of fasting facilities being closed since 1 May 2025 are baseless.
Automated number plate identification technique focuses on technology
The government said in the circular that the government is considering adopting a new challenge-free toll system. In which he is focusing on integrating the existing fastag infrastructure with automatic number plate identification (ANPR) technology. With the help of this advanced system, uninterrupted movement of vehicles will be possible without wasting time on the toll plaza. This will save time and reduce traffic. The ANPR-Fastag system will be paired with high-resolution cameras. Which will read the number plate of the vehicle coming from a distance and order the fastag to automatically collect toll tax. Under this model, vehicles will not need to stop at toll booths. And the toll tax will be paid quickly.
Fastag can be suspended
The ministry said that we will send e-notice to drivers failing to pay tolls. Fastags of those who violate toll payment rules can also be suspended. Apart from this, you will also face other punishment provisions under the vehicle system.
NHAI has invited dialects for the implementation of the ANPR-Fastag system. The government will officially implement this system on the basis of its performance, effectiveness and user feedback. Till then, the current fastag system will continue at all toll plazas across the country. Fastag users have also been urged to maintain the remaining amount through various payment channels including UPI, Net Banking and Mobile App. So that you can avoid punishment.
