Chandigarh: The farm unions protesting at the Khanauri and Shambhu borders of Punjab and Haryana since February 13 last year, to press for their demands including minimum support price (MSP) and debt waiver, are reportedly planning to hold a mahapanchayat in the neighbouring state Rajasthan on February 11, ahead of their mahapanchayat at the two borders on February 12 and 13, respectively, .
According to information, farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, about 70, who has been on the fast-unto-death since November 26, is likely to address the gatherings via video-conferencing.
Meanwhile, Priya Ranjan, joint secretary, ministry of agriculture and farmer welfare, had recently met the senior farm leaders and Dallewal at Khanauri and invited them for discussions on their demands in Chandigarh on February 14.
It may be recalled that the farmer unions camping and protesting at Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Punjab and Haryana since the past about one year, had also made a few attempts to take out protest foot marches in December last year, though the same were foiled by Haryana police and Central forces by raining teargas shells leaving about 50 farmers injured.
