Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans were seen celebrating vociferously in front of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) fans after a landmark win over the Yellow Army in the IPL 2025 game at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. In a video surfaced on social media, fans were loudly chanting ‘RCB RCB RCB’ leaving the CSK supporters silent.
It was indeed a record-breaking win for the Royal Challengers, who defeated the Yellow Army in their home ground for the first time since the inaugural edition of the IPL. Captain Rajat Patidar was their top-scorer, hammering a 32-ball 51 and earned the Player of the Match award too.
With the ball, Josh Hazlewood wreaked havoc in the powerplay, including snaffling Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi in the same over. The 34-year-old finished with a sensational haul of 4-0-21-3. Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone also picked up two scalps, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar snared one.
MS Dhoni smacked a couple of sixes in the final over to give the crowd something to cheer about but the five-time champions still lost by 50 runs while chasing 197.
“It was a good total on this surface because ball was stopping a bit” – Rajat Patidar
At the post-match presentation, Patidar spoke about his innings claiming that he intended to maximise every ball he faced. The right-handed batter stated:
“If I talk about this match, it was a good total on this surface because ball was stopping a bit and it wasn’t easy for batters to hit fours and sixes. I think it was very important because we were targeting 200 because that wouldn’t be easy to chase. My goal was clear that as long as I was there, I would maximise every ball.”
The Royal Challengers will next face the Gujarat Titans April 2 at home.
