The fastag of this circular will not have any effect on customers.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has clarified the change in fastag rules. NHAI has stated that according to reports, the transactions are not activated by the fastag done 60 minutes before and after crossing the toll plaza. The NPCI’s circular (NPCI/2024-25/NETC/004A 28.01.2025) will not have any effect on the fastag customers.

NHAI clarified NPCI’s purpose

The NPCI has issued this circular vehicle to facilitate the resolution of disputes between the acquired bank and the issuing bank regarding the position of the fastag when the vehicle passes through the toll plaza. Its purpose is to ensure that the fastag transactions are completed within the appropriate time after the vehicle passes through the toll plaza so that customers do not face problems due to delays in transactions.

NHAI cleaned on viral post

All national highway toll plazas operate on the ICD 2.5 protocol that provides the position of the tag in real time, therefore, the fastag customers can recharge it anytime before crossing the toll plaza. Some toll plazas on highways in states are still working on the ICD 2.4 protocol, for which it is necessary to update the tag status regularly. Soon all such toll plazas are being planned to be transferred to the ICD 2.5 protocol.

Fastag users can recharge their fastag at any time.

Fastag customers are encouraged to connect their fastag wallet to UPI/current/savings account under auto-recharge settings, which will eliminate the requirement of manual recharge. Additionally, customers can continue to recharge their fastag using various payment channels like UPI, Net Banking etc. at any time before reaching the toll.
