What do meteorologists say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s senior meteorologist Dr. Divya E. Surendran, the ongoing snowfall in North India has brought icy winds to Madhya Pradesh, causing temperatures to plummet across the state.

The subtropical jet stream in northern and western India is now flowing at a speed of 296 km/h at an altitude of 12.6 km, up from 278 km/h earlier. As this wind descends to lower altitudes, the cold is expected to intensify further. A western disturbance active in northern India has also contributed to the chill by melting snow, which cools the air further.
