A 49-year-old woman from Digha has accused Ramashish Yadav, a former corporator from the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), of sexually assaulting her under the pretext of offering help. She further alleged that Yadav refused to accept paternity of their 15-year-old son and hurled caste-based abuses at her. Based on her complaint, the Rabale MIDC Police have registered a case against Yadav under charges of rape and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The woman in her complaint stated that in 2005, after a dispute with her husband, she was leaving her home when Yadav allegedly advised her to stay back and promised to take care of her and her children if she left her husband. Later, he called her to meet at Mahape, took her to a lodge, and allegedly raped her forcibly. She also claimed that Yadav continued to sexually assault her on multiple occasions at various lodges and his residence in Yadav Nagar.
When the woman became pregnant, Yadav allegedly pressured her to get an abortion and tried to terminate the pregnancy through various doctors. However, when the abortion failed, she gave birth to a son in March 2010. She claimed she became pregnant again in 2016, and this time Yadav allegedly forced her to take abortion pills, leading to a forced termination of the pregnancy.
The woman also alleged that Yadav never accepted their son as his own, refusing to acknowledge him to this day. Additionally, in 2018, when she asked Yadav to return the gold jewelry she had entrusted to him, he allegedly used caste-based slurs and demanded Rs1 lakh in exchange for the ornaments.
Distressed by these prolonged incidents, the woman approached the Rabale MIDC Police Station and filed an official complaint against Ramashish Yadav on Sunday. “We have registered the case as per the allegations of the victim and the further investigations in the same are on,” said a police officer from Rabale MIDC police station.
