Donald Trump put 100 tariffs on films: Tariff for tariff, tariff for tariff, tariff for tariff… US President Donald Trump has made ‘Tariff’ his life mantra, putting new tariffs every day. Recently, he has again created a stir by announcing a tariff on Hollywood films. Not only this, they are planning to put 100 percent tariff on films!

Why was tariffs imposed on films?

Trump has announced a plan to impose 100 percent tariff on all films made outside the United States. For this, he has argued that other countries offer attractive offers to American filmmakers to make films abroad, due to which American jobs are ending abroad. This causes damage to the workers associated with the Hollywood film industry and overall the US suffers financial losses. So Trump has planned to put tariffs on films to ensure that American films are made in the US itself.

What did Trump say?

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Hollywood and many other areas of America are being destroyed.” This is a joint effort of other countries, so the issue has become a threat to national security. This wrong information has been deliberately given. “Therefore, I am immediately authorizing the Commerce Department and the United States trade representative to start the process of imposing 100 percent tariff on any foreign film released in the United States.”

Reacting to Trump’s post, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutenik wrote in a post on social media platform X, “We are working in this direction.”

Which countries provide discounted facilities for filmmaking?

Many Hollywood movies are made outside the United States as the cost of filmmaking in Britain and other European countries is lower than in the United States. Since European countries provide all facilities from film shooting to filmmaking at concessional rates, many Indian films are also made in such countries.

What will be the basis of 100 percent tariff?

Trump has not clarified the base of 100 percent tariff on films. Does 100 percent mean that the tariff will be equal to the total budget of the film or the tariff will be equal to the box office collection? It has not been reported whether the calculation will be done in a third way or not.

Tariff on films of countries around the world including India

What Trump has written means that these tariffs will not only apply to American films made abroad, but will also apply to films made in other countries. This means that when a Hindi or other Indian language film made in India will be released in America, Trump’s tariff of hundred crores will be broken as a crisis!

China responsible for Trump’s decision!

Trump realized that China was responsible for tariffs on films. Recently, China has reduced the number of American films released in its country. From now on, only a certain number of American films can be shown in China. This decision of China has been taken in view of the tariff war launched by the US. China is the second largest film market in the world after the US, so the move will definitely make Hollywood major film production studios. Therefore, it can be said that in response to China’s dogma, Trump has also been torn.

Hollywood is also facing recession.

Hollywood’s film production studios have not yet recovered from the shock of the Kovid era. Filmmaking has declined in the United States in recent years, which have many reasons, such as economic investment obstacles caused by Tram’s tariff policies, billions of dollars of dollars due to disastrous fire in Los Angeles, and Hollywood labor unions strikes on employment issues. While film and television production has fallen by 20 percent globally, it has fallen by 40 percent in the US! In such a situation, only time will tell whether Hollywood will benefit from Trump’s decision to put tariffs on films.

Is Tariff’s decision on films practical?

It cannot be said that this latest step of Trump, which is taking all kinds of drastic steps to make America financially competent, will benefit America, because if 100 % tariff of the entire budget of a film is imposed, then the producers of all the films made abroad will not be able to take the risk of releasing the film in America, because it is not certain how much a film will earn at the box office. The producers of big budget and big actors will be able to pay 100 percent tariff once again, but what will happen to small and low budget films? Such films will never reach American citizens. And if this happens, lack of adequate films will adversely affect the American theater business. Which will eventually reduce America’s income. So Trump’s decision does not seem practical.
