Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is celebrated every year to honour the birth of Adi Shankaracharya, one of the greatest spiritual teachers and philosophers in Indian history. In 2025, Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti will be observed on Friday, May 2, 2025. It falls on the Panchami Tithi (fifth day) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Vaishakha.

About Adi Sankaracharya

Adi Shankaracharya was born in the 8th century in Kalady, a village in present-day Kerala. He was a brilliant child who became a saint and teacher at a very young age. Even though he lived only for 32 years, his wisdom and teachings changed the spiritual path of India forever. He traveled across the country on foot, spreading knowledge about Advaita Vedanta, which teaches that all living beings are one with God and there is no difference between the soul and the Supreme.

He also helped bring back the importance of Sanatan Dharma (eternal spiritual path) at a time when people were confused by many different beliefs. Adi Shankaracharya wrote many books and commentaries on ancient texts like the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and Brahmasutras. He also established four mathas (spiritual centers) in the four corners of India — in Sringeri, Dwarka, Puri, and Badrinath — which still guide Hindu spiritual practice today.
