Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday reacted to the viral video of three men brutally attacking a tea stall worker in Baramati. He said no one should take the law into their own hands and assured that even if the accused is the son of his party leader, he will be punished.
“I saw a video of three men brutally attacking a tea stall worker… I told the police that even if my party worker’s son had done such an act, he should be punished… I won’t tolerate such things… No one should take the law into their own hands… If someone has wronged you, lodge a complaint with the police,” Pawar said.
“Such things should not happen… It is the moral responsibility of parents to take care of their children and ensure they don’t commit such acts… People won’t understand unless strict punishment is given,” he added.
According to a report in Maharashtra Times, around 5pm on Friday, three men on a two-wheeler assaulted a young man named Hemant Bhise, who was working at a tea stall near Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Government Medical College & General Hospital in Baramati. In the video, the attackers can be seen beating the tea stall worker with anything they could find — a lock, water bottle, pot, etc.
Following the incident, Hemant sustained injuries and was admitted to Bhagyajay Hospital in Baramati for treatment. Meanwhile, his brother, Deepak Bhise, filed a complaint with the Baramati City Police. The police immediately launched an investigation and identified the three attackers, who had come from Lasurne village in Indapur taluka. The accused — Aadesh Londhe, Mayur Gaikwad and Aditya Londhe — were arrested on Saturday.
After the video went viral, Baramati MP Supriya Sule raised concerns over the law and order situation. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “A video of a person being brutally beaten up in Baramati has gone viral. It is a matter of great concern if goons are openly taking the law into their own hands in such a manner. The common people are worried about their safety. To maintain law and order in the city and the surrounding areas and to reassure the citizens, it is very important to take strict action against those who commit such criminal acts. The Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, should please take serious note of this and take strict action.”
