Mumbai: The Indian Chinese and Bio -Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) has estimated that India will export about seven million tonnes of sugar in the current Chinese session ending September. The government has allowed export of 1 million tonnes of sugar.

The government had given the concession on the assumption that there will be more stock of sugar in the country, but the production of sugar in the current season is likely to be less than expected. ISMA sources said that sugar supply could be affected in low production conditions.

According to the report received, Kiran Wadhavana of Isma said at the S&P Global Sugar Conference in New Delhi that India will be able to export only seven lakh tonnes of sugar against the permission of one million tonnes.

The government is not only controlling the Chinese trade in the country strictly, but the government is also continuously interfered in providing a fair price for sugarcane to farmers.

It is noteworthy that the current Chinese season from October to April 15 has reduced the total production of sugar in the country on an annual basis by 18.40 percent to 25.425 lakh tonnes. Chinese production is expected to be less than consumption in the current season.

According to data from the National Cooperative Chinese Factory Federation, sugar production has declined significantly this year in three states of the country – Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Federation sources had earlier said that the possibility of its demand going down cannot be ruled out in view of the way sugar production is declining. It is possible that after many years, such a situation will be seen in the country in which the production of sugar is less than the consumption of sugar.

Pure sugar production is expected to be 25.9 million tonnes in the current year, while in the previous season (October-September) it was 31.9 million tonnes in 2023-24.
