Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) has arrested an employee of Sainik Welfare Board for ripping off more than ₹3 crore of organisation members, officials said here on Thursday.
In December 2024, Free Press has exposed financial irregularities which took place in Sainik Welfare Board. Later, the EOW had registered the case and after investigation the police have arrested the accused.
The scam took place from the year 2013 to 2019. Government money was deposited in a government account, but few of the current accounts were opened and the money is stashed in those accounts very skilfully.
EOW officials informed that the retired head constable and the employee (accountant) of the Board Neeraj Chaturvedi, had allegedly siphoned the money of an ex-army personnel and fled.
While working in the Board, the accountant had opened a bank account and transferred the amount of ₹2.95 crore which belonged to the Committee and the Board. He had also paid an amount of ₹16.25 lakh to an interior decorator for decorating his house.
It is claimed that the money which belonged to around 700 ex-army personnel for their welfare and others has been ripped off. Earlier, as soon as the fraud came to the fore, the head constable submitted his resignation and fled. It is claimed that many other officers are also involved in the scam.
