Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX CEO said on Wednesday (January 8) that Starlink, the satellite internet service of SpaceX, will provide free internet terminals for areas affected by massive wildfires in California. Musk said that the terminals will be provided ‘tomorrow morning’ (January 9, according to local time.)

California has been hit by massive wildfire that are spreading rapidly due to strong, dry winds. The City of Los Angeles, alongwith Hollywood, have been hit by the fires which are yet to come under control.

CalFire, the state fire agency has said that the fire is the most destructive in Los Angeles’ history. The fire agency has said that more than 1000 structures have burned in the Palisades Fire.

More than 100,000 people have been placed under mandatory evacuation orders.

According to poweroutage(dot)us, a website that tracks power outages in the US, 1.5 million customers were without power on Los Angeles County by Wednesday afternoon.

Outgoing US President Joe Biden made a post on X to say that at least two people have been killed and ‘many more’ were injured. He sought to assure local residents.

Many of Hollywood’s A-list celebrities have been hit by the wildfires. Paris Hilton said that she was ‘heartbroken’ after her house was engulfed by flames. She herself is not physically harmed.

Fire also burnt the house of ‘This is us’ star Mandy Moore. She took to Instagram to say that while she and her family were safe, there was ‘sadness and worry’ as her house was gutted.
