Actress Elnaaz Norouzi recently opened up about falling victim to cybercrime after discovering an email with her password as the subject line, which led her to find private pictures of herself. Sharing shocking details, she revealed that on January 18, she received an anonymous email, which she usually ignores, but upon noticing her password in the subject line, she decided to open it.
Speaking to ETimes, Elnaaz shared, “I found my private pictures attached, along with a message that read, ‘I have your pictures. If you don’t want them posted online, then reply to me as soon as possible. If not, the next email will be a link with the pictures online.'”
Soon after, Elnaaz contacted the Cybercrime Cell, and after an investigation, it was revealed that the email originated from a server based in Switzerland. However, the team could not obtain further information about the user. Elnaaz remains in constant fear that she might be contacted again despite using a new email account.
During the investigation, when asked if she had clicked on any unfamiliar links, Elnaaz admitted that she had filled out a form online. Later, the cybercrime team visited her residence, backed up her data, and updated all her passwords, which she now changes every month.
The Sacred Games actress admitted to being so scared due to the incident that she is now afraid to open her emails or social media accounts. “I am terrified that the criminal might have posted my private photos online. I go to bed anxious and wake up in the same state. I’ve had to reach out to a therapist a few times to help me calm down. I feel like my privacy has been violated. It feels like someone is always watching me, and I am living in constant fear,” concluded Elnaaz.
