Actress Elli AvrRam is gearing up for her Marathi film debut with the eagerly awaited Ilu Ilu 1998. In an exclusive conversation with The Free Press Journal, Elli reveals her enthusiasm for this exciting project. The recently released teaser takes audiences on a nostalgic trip to the vibrant ’90s, evoking anticipation among fans eager to revisit the era’s colourful charm. With a delightful blend of humour, romance, and a fresh storyline, the film promises to deliver a heartwarming experience, transporting viewers to a simpler time filled with innocent love.
Talking about her Marathi debut, Elli said, “When I first read the script, I immediately loved it. I knew it would be a challenge, especially because it’s in Marathi. I wasn’t sure if I could manage the language, but the script was so good, I just couldn’t pass it up. I’ve always admired Marathi films. The performances are always so impressive, and the way they portray Indian culture really resonates with me. So, I decided to take on the challenge. I’m also quite keen on exploring different industries, as I did with my Tamil debut. For me, it’s always about the script and the role, and if they’re great, I’m happy to step in.”
Elli portrays a teacher in Ilu Ilu 1998, a role she truly enjoyed. “It was so much fun to play the character of Miss Pinto,” she shared. “When the kids were sitting there, and I entered the classroom, they all said, ‘Good morning, teacher!’ It felt really nice. It was such an enjoyable experience to shoot in an actual school here in India, and I loved stepping into the character of a teacher, guiding children.”
When asked about her favourite ’90s songs, Elli couldn’t contain her excitement: “Oh, definitely Aakhir Tumhe Aana Hai and Tujhe Dekha Toh from Dilwale! Those songs are so iconic. I love the energy and the nostalgia they bring.”
As for her favourite ’90s stars, she picked Shah Rukh Khan without hesitation. “He’s the ultimate charmer, and he wins everyone’s heart. As for the heroine, it’s Aishwarya Rai for her grace and beauty, but I also adore Madhuri Dixit for her queen-like presence. Both are incredibly talented.”
Elli was also asked if there’s any role from a ’90s movie she’d love to recreate. “I think I would love to play Kajol’s role from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Her character is so loved, and I feel I can really relate to her personality in that film. It’s such an iconic role, and I could totally see myself playing it.”
Regarding her upcoming song, “Aakhir Tumhe Aana Hai,” Elli shared, “It’s actually part of a 20-minute short film, and the character I portray is very different from anything I’ve done before. I absolutely loved playing this role. Acting allows you to explore so many different characters, change your looks, accents, and languages—it’s one of the things I love about this profession.”
Before concluding the conversation, Elli expressed her fondness for the Marathi language, even learning to say “I love you” in Marathi. “Majhe Tujhyavar Prem Aahe,” she said with a smile.
Elli also urged her fans not to miss her Marathi debut, saying, “Don’t forget to watch Ilu Ilu 1998 in theatres on January 31, 2025. I’m so excited for everyone to see it!”
