Ahmedabad: Electronics emerged as the third largest export sector in FY 2025 with exports of Rs 3.27 lakh crore. This indicates an increase of 36 percent as compared to Rs 2.41 lakh crore. Export from the petroleum sector stood first and export from engineering sector stood second.
Along with this, the electronics sector (which was in fifth place in terms of exports in 2023-24) now reached the third position after drugs and pharmaceuticals (Rs 2.57 lakh crore) and gems and jewelery (Rs 2.52 lakh crore), leaving behind petroleum products (Rs 5.34 lakh crore) and engineering (Rs 9.86 lakh crore).
Electronics export was at seventh place when the PLI scheme was announced in 2019-20. The electronics region, which was in the third place race, has become India’s fastest growing export area in the top 10.
The India Cellular and Electronics Association said that by 2030, there is a need for major policy changes in taxes, charges and industrial infrastructure areas to achieve a government target of $ 500 billion.
The biggest growth in electronics was due to mobile phone exports, which is estimated to exceed $ 2 trillion in FY 2025, which would contribute 61 percent to this unprecedented growth. The 85 percent increase was increased by the export of mobile devices.
Apple’s iPhone played an important role in mobile exports, exports worth Rs 1,000 crore in 2014-15. Electronics exports have been targeted at Rs 1.5 lakh crore in FY 2025, which is 45.8 percent of the total electronics exports. Electronics production has increased five times in the last decade and exports have increased six times during this period.
