Pune: Eknath Shinde Sends ₹32 Lakh Cheque To Clear Debt Of Sant Tukaram’s Descendant Shirish More | FPJ

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has sent a cheque of ₹32 lakh to the family of Shirish More (32), a descendant of Sant Tukaram Maharaj, who died by suicide on Wednesday at his home in the Dehu Road area of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police recovered a suicide note after More hanged himself from a ceiling fan. In the note, he said he was taking the extreme step due to financial distress. He also asked his friends to help his parents repay a ₹32 lakh debt.

On Sunday, which also happened to be Shinde’s 61st birthday, Shiv Sena MLA Vijay Shivtare met More’s family in Dehu and handed over the cheque.

“Purandar MLA Vijay Shivtare was asked to visit More’s home and extend financial help on behalf of the party. Shivtare on Sunday handed over a cheque of ₹32 lakh to the kin of the kirtankar,” a release by Shinde’s office said.

More was a well-known kirtankar (performer of kirtan or traditional religious discourse), spiritual speaker and a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary. He is survived by his father — a retired bank employee, his mother — a housewife and a 22-year-old sister — who is unmarried. He had recently got engaged and planned to marry his fiancée on February 20.
