Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A three day ‘Alok Chatterjee Smriti Natya Mahotsav’ began with a solo play ‘Ek Mulakat Shakuntala Se’ in the city on Saturday.

Written by Alok Chatterjee, it was directed by Shobha Chatterjee. Presented by Aarti Vishwakarma, the one-hour play depicts the inner conflict of a woman. It also highlights the consciousness, dignity, freedom, pain and glory of a woman in a modern perspective.

Ahaan Group organised the drama festival in the memory of theatre doyen Alok Chatterjee who passed away recently. His wife Shobha completed her hubby’s incomplete script of the play.

According to Shibha , Alok had written the play ‘Ek Mulakat Shakuntala Ke Saath’ in November 1994. Many times he used to dictate and she used to write. This is how the script was prepared. She was going to act solo in it. That script got lost somewhere during the house shifting. After this, that play could not be done. After that, after many years, they got half the script. “Then we got one more page of Alok’s play script. In this way, more than half of the script of the play was found . At that time, Alok’s health was also not good. We planned to complete that script and stage the play on January 22 but before that he passed away,” she said.
