Palghar, Maharashtra: A motorbike rally organized by Sakal Hindu Samaj to celebrate Ram Navami in Palghar district was disrupted on Sunday when unidentified individuals allegedly hurled eggs at participants. The incident, which occurred as the procession reached its destination near Pimpleshwar Temple in Global City, Virar (West), led to a brief period of tension in the area, police reported on Monday.
The rally, which commenced from Sarveshwar Temple in Chikhaldongri, comprised approximately 100 to 150 motorbikes, a ceremonial chariot, and two tempos, drawing a significant number of local devotees. As the procession neared Pimpleshwar Temple, some motorbike riders who had taken a side street were suddenly targeted by eggs allegedly thrown from a nearby building, according to a police official.
This unexpected act sparked anger among the devotees, leading to a tense atmosphere in the vicinity. Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Bolinj police station swiftly reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The Bolinj police have registered a case against unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for public mischief and hurting religious sentiments. Authorities have also detained one person for questioning in connection with the incident.
In the aftermath, police have intensified vigilance in the area to prevent any further untoward incidents. Additionally, authorities have appealed to the public to maintain calm and refrain from spreading any unverified information on social media platforms that could potentially escalate tensions. The investigation into the egg-throwing incident is currently underway.
