Officials said in a statement that the ED will return assets worth about Rs 15,000 crore to the victims of real estate, Ponji and other frauds across the country during the current financial year.
Documents suggest that the Federal Investigation Agency began to implement this provision to withdraw the assets available under the Money Laundering Act last year to ensure that financial crime fraud is to give back their rights to legitimate owners and correct contenders.
Under this provision, a total of Rs 31,951 crore has been refunded to the victims of three money laundering cases related to fugitive economic criminals Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi between 2019-21 in the case of fugitive economic criminals and Nirav Modi.

According to the data, ED recovered assets worth Rs 15,261.15 crore (financial year 2024-25) and Rs 1488 crore during the current financial year (2025-26) from August 2024 to April 2025.
Officials said the ED chief has recently issued instructions to all the regional offices of the agency to work actively on marked cases for recovery of assets worth Rs 15,000 crore during FY 2025-26.
Under the current plan of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the competent court can order the process of returning the property of innocent investors before the hearing in any case.
