Offline method (update by going to Aadhaar Center)

  1. Go to the nearest base center: To update Aadhaar, you have to go to your nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center.
  2. Fill the base update form:
    • In this, enter your 12-numbers’ Aadhaar number.
    • Enter the new name (new name taken after marriage).
    • Attach the required documents.
  3. Submit the necessary documents:
    • Marriage Certificate
    • Spouses Aadhaar Card
    • Other required certificates (eg passport, bank statement, ration card)
  4. Pay the update fee: 50 rupees fee will have to be paid for the name update.
  5. Biometric verification: Fingerprint and iris will be scanned.
  6. Get an update request number (URN): After submitting the application, you will get an update request number (URN), so that you can track your update status.

Your name may usually take 7 to 90 days to update.

How to update Aadhaar card online after marriage?

UIDAI has provided the facility of online Aadhaar update, so that you can change your Aadhaar card sitting at home.

Online name update process

  1. Go to the official website of UIDAI https://uidai.gov.in.
  2. Click on “Update Demographics Data” in “My Aadhaar” section.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha code.
  4. Select the “Name” option and enter the new name.
  5. Upload required documents:
    • Scanned marriage certificate.
    • Aadhar card of spouse.
  6. Pay a fee of Rs 50.
  7. Get the update request number (URN) and check the status.

Once the update is completed, you can download your e-Aadhaar.
