A 33 -storeyed building collapsed after an earthquake in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. In which 17 people were killed and 83 workers went missing. The building was being constructed by a Chinese -backed company. This raised questions on the quality of construction. At the same time, four Chinese citizens have been arrested on charges of documents theft.
The building collapsed like cards.
Bangkok has several skyscrapers. But during the earthquake, only this under construction building suffered heavy damage. The project was being run under Thailand’s State Accounting Office (SAO) and its cost was more than 2 billion Thai weights i.e. about 50 thousand crores. After this incident, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Anupin Charnavirakul has ordered an inquiry. He said that a committee has been formed. The report will have to be submitted within seven days.
Games played in documents
Another shocking incident came to light after the building collapsed. Four Chinese citizens have been arrested for stealing 32 important documents from there. The Governor of Bangkok has declared the region a disaster sector. Where only authorized people can go. The building was being constructed by Italian-Tailed Development PLC (ITD) and China Railway No. 10 Limited. The Chinese company had 49% stake in this project. Which was the maximum limit of foreign ownership under Thai law.
Questions raised on security standards
The project was to be completed by 2026, but it is lagging far behind the scheduled time. According to Thailand’s Deputy Auditor General Sutipong Bunithi, the construction work has been completed only 30%. Manimongkol, the president of Thailand’s anti -corruption organization, said that his organization had expressed concern about the construction work earlier. He said that the number of workers at the construction site is less than the requirement, due to which the delay is being delayed. There is a fear of compromise with standards due to haste in construction.
Earthquake heavy havoc
The earthquake has the most impact in Myanmar, where more than 2,000 people have been killed and 4,000 have been injured so far. Emergency situation has been declared in many areas of the country and the hospitals are full of injured people. Buildings have been destroyed in major cities like Mandalay and the infrastructure has caused heavy damage. After this devastating earthquake, India has sent relief material to Myanmar. India has sent medicines, medical equipment and 80 -member NDRF team through five military aircraft.
