Earthquake shocks were felt this morning in many areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Center (NSMC), the intensity of this earthquake was measured on the 5.5 Richter scale and its center was located in the north-west of Rawalpindi, which is reported to be 12 kilometers.

At present, there has been no news of loss of life and property, but vigilance is being taken by the administration. Rescue teams are on alert and are kept ready to deal with any emergency.

What is the regional geological situation?
This area is located on the active boundary of tectonic plates, where often light or moderate intensity earthquakes occur. Earlier, there was a recent earthquake of 7.7 magnitude in Myanmar which caused huge havoc there.

International relief and rescue operations are still going on after the earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand. Many buildings in an area with a population of about 2.8 crore became frozen and basic facilities have been badly affected. The world community is providing assistance in these areas with joint efforts.
