Earthquake tremors were felt in three countries including Nepal on Tuesday morning. The intensity of the earthquake in Nepal was 7.1 on the Richter scale. Earthquake tremors were also felt in many parts of India including Bihar, Sikkim, Assam and North Bengal. An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude was recorded in Tibet.

Earthquake tremors were felt in many areas of Bihar including Motihari and Samastipur at 6.40 am.

Earthquake tremors were felt at 6.40 am in many areas of Bihar including Motihari and Samastipur. Earthquakes continue in some parts of North Bengal including Malda and Sikkim. It is said that the earth shook for five seconds. Feeling the tremors of the earthquake, people started coming out of their homes out of fear.

According to USGS Earthquake, the intensity of the earthquake in Nepal was 7.1 on the Richter scale. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Shijang near the Nepal-Tibet border. Many earthquake videos are going viral on social media, in which the earth can be seen shaking. So far there is no news of any loss of life or property due to the earthquake.

Why do earthquakes occur?

There are seven tectonic plates within the Earth. These plates keep rotating continuously. When these plates collide with each other, they rub. When they climb on top of each other or move away from them, the ground starts shaking. This is called earthquake. The Richter scale is used to measure earthquakes. This is called Richter Magnitude Scale.

The Richter magnitude scale ranges from 1 to 9. The intensity of an earthquake is measured from its center i.e. AP center. That means the energy coming out from that center is measured on this scale. 1 means low intensity energy is being released. 9 means highest. Very scary and destructive wave. As soon as they go away they become weak. If the intensity is 7 on the Richter scale, then a strong shock occurs within a radius of 40 kilometers around it.

How intense, how dangerous?

How dangerous are earthquakes? It is measured on the Richter scale. In an earthquake, each scale of the Richter scale is 10 times more dangerous than the previous scale. – Earthquakes with magnitude 0 to 1.9 can be detected only by seismograph. When an earthquake of magnitude 2 to 2.9 occurs, some shaking occurs. An earthquake of magnitude 3 to 3.9 feels as if a truck has passed by. Windows can break in an earthquake of 4 to 4.9 magnitude. Frames hanging on the walls may fall.

An earthquake of magnitude 5 to 5.9 can shake household furniture. An earthquake of magnitude 6 to 6.9 can crack the foundations of buildings, damaging upper floors. Buildings collapse due to earthquakes of 7 to 7.9 magnitude. Underground pipelines may burst. An earthquake of magnitude 8 to 8.9 can collapse buildings as well as large bridges. An earthquake of magnitude 9 or more causes massive destruction. If someone stands in the field, he will see the earth shaking. If the sea is close, a tsunami may occur.
