A sudden dust storm accompanied by rain and hail lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday evening, offering much-needed respite from the intense heatwave but causing widespread disruption and damage.
Gate Collapses in Greater Noida Society
Amid the chaos, a video from Greater Noida went viral showing the main gate of the Apex Golf Avenue society collapsing under the storm’s force. The visuals show debris piled up in front of the entrance. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this particular incident.
According to news reports, the storm struck around 8 PM, bringing strong gusts of wind, rain, thunder, and hail. While the sudden shift in weather brought relief from the prolonged heat, it also led to tragic incidents and widespread disruption.
Visuals from across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Meerut showed trees, hoardings, and electric poles being uprooted due to the heavy rain and wind. In Saharanpur, two people died due to lightning, according to media reports.
Operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport were also affected due to poor visibility and strong winds, causing multiple flight delays.

Delhi Metro Services Hit
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued an official statement on X, informing commuters about partial service disruption on multiple lines.
“Due to a sudden windstorm, there has been some damage to OHE (Overhead Equipment) or external objects falling/coming onto metro tracks at certain locations. As a result, Metro services are affected and being regulated on the affected sections of the Red, Yellow, and Pink Lines near Shaheed Nagar, Jahangirpuri, and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations respectively. Efforts are being made to remove these objects and restore OHE on an immediate basis to restore normalcy,” the DMRC stated.
On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius, accompanied by high humidity levels, adding to the discomfort for residents. The storm brought a drastic and sudden change in the weather, cooling temperatures but leaving a trail of damage in its wake.
