Durg: The brutal case of the rape and murder of a 6-year-old girl in Durg has sent shockwaves through society, sparking widespread anger and sorrow. The ruthlessness of the crime, allegedly committed by the girl’s own uncle, has not only devastated the victim’s family but has also triggered mass protests across the city.

In an unprecedented move, the Durg Advocates Association has publicly declared that they will not extend any legal support to the accused, Somesh Yadav. The association’s decision is being seen as a bold moral stance, reflecting the collective outrage and societal responsibility felt by the legal fraternity.

Meanwhile, thousands of protesters, including members of the Yadav Samaj, gathered outside the Durg Collectorate, demanding capital punishment for the accused and a CBI inquiry into the incident. Protesters also raised serious concerns over the role and response of the Mohan Nagar police station, alleging negligence and demanding accountability.

The protestors echoed a common sentiment — “No mercy for such inhuman acts” — and urged authorities to fast-track the investigation and trial to ensure justice is not delayed.

The tragic incident took place in Mohan Nagar police station area, where the accused allegedly took the child to a room on the terrace and subjected her to brutal torture during a rape attempt.

According to reports, he burned her private parts with cigarettes, and the child died from the injuries and trauma. A case has been registered under rape, murder, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
