Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking incident unfolded near Katghar, Moradabad on Holi (March 14), wherein BJP booth president Sanjay Kumar Arya paid a heavy price for refusing to hug an intoxicated youth during the festival.
In response, the enraged youth retrieved a pistol and fired a shot at Arya. While the bullet missed him, it struck his friend Akshay in the leg, causing severe injury. As per reports, authorities have launched an investigation after recording statements, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the accused.
How Did the Attack Take Place?
According to news reports, the incident took place near Phoolwati Kanya Inter College while Sanjay Kumar Arya was celebrating Holi with his friend Akshay. During the festivities, Abhishek Thakur, a local resident, arrived at the scene in an inebriated state and insisted on hugging Arya. Since Arya and his friends had already bathed after celebrating Holi, they declined his request. This refusal enraged Thakur, who left the spot only to return armed with a pistol.
In a fit of rage, Thakur opened fire. While the bullet missed Arya, it struck Akshay’s leg, leaving him injured. The violence did not stop there—Abhishek then used the butt of his pistol to repeatedly attack Arya, causing severe injuries to his head. The sudden escalation of violence led to panic at the location, with onlookers fleeing the scene.
Accused Absconded After Attack
Eyewitnesses captured the incident on video, showing Thakur brandishing the firearm and launching his attack. Upon realizing that the police had been informed, the accused fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Police Launch Investigation
Following the incident, local police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured victims to the district hospital for medical treatment. Authorities registered a case at Katghar police station and launched an investigation into the matter.
The police, in an official statement on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that raids are being conducted to apprehend Thakur, and they assured that he would be arrested soon.
