Mumbai: The MHB police have booked two people for drunk driving after their car rammed into the stationary bike of a police beat marshal, fracturing his leg and injuring him.
The incident took place around 1.45am on Thursday when Mithil Upadhyay, 26, a chef, and Natwarlal Kawa, 46, car owner, were returning from a Dahisar bar where they consumed alcohol. The duo was found heavily intoxicated, said the police, adding that Upadhyay, who was at the wheel, did not possess a driving license.
According to the officials, the victim, Ravindra Dhamale, 36, had stopped his bike beside the road and remained seated on it in front of Sumania Hotel, IC Colony, Borivali West. At the moment, the car hit him, causing him to fall and bleed. The vehicle did not stop and went ahead, colliding with another car, said the police. Dhamale alerted his colleagues and subsequently the hotel staff and an auto driver took him to a hospital.
The duo has been booked for attempt to commit culpable homicide), rash or negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
