Weight loss medicine: There is good news for Indians troubled by obesity. American drug manufacturer Elli Lily & Company launched its weight loss drug in India on Thursday (March 20). This drug is already being widely sold in western countries. It is noteworthy that obesity and related type-2 diabetes has become a major health problem in India. This drug is to be given as an injection once a week. The dose of 5 mg is priced at Rs 4375. Apart from this, you will have to spend 3500 rupees for 2.5 mg.

In clinical tests, the drug showed the effects of weight loss.

The chemical name of the drug is Tirjepatide. India’s Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) approved its import and sale on 16 June 2024. This drug has shown the effects of weight loss in clinical tests. According to the company, adults participating in the study lost 21.8 kg on an average at a dose of 5 mg along with diet and exercise in 72 weeks and 15.4 kg at the lowest dose.

 

Moonzaro has already become popular in the US, Britain and European markets. After getting approval from the CDSCO, Indian patients started importing this drug for personal use. In India, a one -month course of four shots of 2.5 mg dosage is priced around Rs 14,000, while in Britain it is priced between Rs 23,000 and Rs 25,000 in Indian currency.

It is noteworthy that about 101 million people in India suffer from diabetes. About half of these adult patients are getting insufficient treatment. Due to this, their blood sugar control is not optimal. Obesity is associated with over 200 health problems, including high blood pressure, dislipidemia, coronary heart disease and obstructive sleep apnea. This is a major risk factor for diabetes.
