Mumbai: The Azad Maidan police have arrested a 24-year-old driver from Satara district within 24 hours of him stealing a car and fleeing. The accused, identified as Pratik Anand Jhunjhar (24), was nabbed following a swift police operation.
Pratik, a resident of Gajdhar Bandh, Santacruz (West), had been working for a fabrication businessman for the past three months. However, he was addicted to alcohol, and his employer often reprimanded him for it. Upset over this, on March 29 at around 10 AM, he dropped his employer’s daughter at Sir JJ School of Arts for an entrance exam. Shortly after, he switched off his phone and fled with the car, which also had a tablet worth ₹30,000 inside.
When the employer, Amol Kasat, couldn’t reach the driver for several hours, he approached the Azad Maidan Police Station and filed a complaint.
Under the supervision of Police Inspector Liladhar Patil, the police launched an investigation. Based on CCTV footage and technical evidence, they traced the accused to Satara district. Acting swiftly, a police team reached the location and arrested Pratik. During interrogation, he confessed to hiding the stolen car in Raigad district. Following his confession, the police recovered the stolen Maruti Ertiga and the tablet. The accused is now in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
